Psion Teklogix mobile computing system helps SKECHERS manage its diverse men’s, women’s and children’s footwear
Frontline’s International Supply Chain Week Expo, Chicago, IL, Booth #211 - September 16, 2003 - Psion Teklogix, (LSE: PON), a global provider of solutions for mobile computing and wireless data collection, today announced its wireless inventory management system has been implemented in SKECHERS USA Inc.’s (NYSE: SKX) domestic and international distribution facilities to manage the footwear company’s inventory and increase operating efficiencies.
The footwear company distributes its men’s, women’s and children’s product directly in the United States, Canada and 11 European countries through more than 1.5 million square feet of combined distribution space. After a considerable review process, SKECHERS chose Manhattan Associates to provide its warehouse management software and Psion Teklogix to deliver its rugged wireless gateways, hand-helds and vehicle mount computers in the company’s existing Ontario, California and recently launched Liege, Belgium distribution centers.
"We realized we needed to upgrade our existing wireless system with a more advanced and scaleable solution with the implementation of our new distribution center in Belgium and increased pressure on our California warehouse as it began shipping to Canada as well as the United States,” said Paul Galliher, vice president of distribution at SKECHERS. “We selected Psion Teklogix because of its reputation for delivering durable and dependable mobile computing devices, which is required in our distribution environment."
Psion Teklogix began installing the new system a year ago and delivered 62 - 9150 wireless gateways, 110 - 8255 vehicle-mount and 209 - 7035 hand-held terminals in the Ontario facility. Psion Teklogix’s wireless system enabled distribution center staff to more efficiently and accurately pick and pack from its more than 1500 styles. After implementing the technology and equipment in the Ontario facility in 2002, Psion Teklogix deployed a similar wireless system in the Belgium facility this year.
